How do I fill and use a hot water bottle?
Hot water bottles are pretty simple to use, but if you're unsure, allow us to talk you through it. First, you will need to unscrew the plug from the top of the hot water bottle. Your hot water bottle should be in a cover and the plug helps to stop water from spilling out. Once you've unscrewed the plug, make sure there isn't any old water left in there, and if there is, pour it away. When you put the water in, make sure not to use water straight from a boiled kettle, allow it to sit for a few minutes before you pour it in or it will be too hot. Fill the bottle until it is about two thirds full, we'd also recommend holding the hot water bottle by it's neck so that it doesn't flop over as you're filling it. Squeeze the air out until you see the water coming to the top of the bottle, and then screw the plug back onto the top of the bottle, and you're done! You may want to tip it over once the plug is secured to check no water is going to leak out. Don't forget to empty your hot water bottle once you're finished with it.
How long will the hot water bottle stay hot for?
Hot water bottles should be filled with hot water and not boiling water, and when you combine it with a good hot water bottle cover, it can keep it's temperature all night long! If you leave it uncovered, it would stay warm for approximately 1 to 2 hours.
Can I freeze a hot water bottle?
With the current weather you definitely wouldn't want to, but we've got a tip that could help you out in the summer! If you're usually struggling to cool yourself down in the warmer months, then we've got an idea you'll love! While we wouldn't recommend freezing the hot water bottle as it can damage the rubber material and cause it to leak later on, there's nothing stopping you from filling it up with cold water and pop it in the fridge for a little while! A new heatwave buddy for you that might just be your saviour next year!
Can I sleep with a hot water bottle?
We wouldn't recommend sleeping all night with a hot water bottle in case you end up laying on top of it, which could cause you burns and injuries. The best thing to do is slip it under your covers 5-10 minutes before you get into bed and that should keep you warm all night! Did you know that hot water bottles can also help to relieve aches, pains and cramps by applying the bottle to the affected area? Providing you with warmth and comfort at the same time.
