What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a treatment that exfoliates your skin and gets rid of dirt and vellus hair, better known as 'peach fuzz'. It's different from dermabrasion, where an aesthetician or doctor uses a high-speed rotating brush to exfoliate the skin. With dermaplaning, they use a scalpel or a tool called a dermatome. The doctor or aesthetician moves the dermatome, which looks like an electric razor, back and forth to scrape off the top layer of dead skin. Leaving your face peach fuzz free. So, if you're planning to get this treatment done you should opt for a licensed aesthetician.
What Happens During Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning treatments can be very relaxing. Your session will begin with a skin preparation treatment, using products designed to gently cleanse your skin and remove bacteria and other germs from your skin's surface. Next, an expert aesthetician will glide the surgical scalpel across your skin, holding it at a specific angle to remove fine hairs and scrape away the dead skin and embedded oil that can cause your skin to look dull and make wrinkles more visible. Once the treatment is complete, special moisturisers and other skincare solutions will be applied to minimize any minor redness or irritation and rehydrate your skin.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning comes with many benefits that can leave your skin feeling rejuvenated and looking glowy. The dermaplaning treatment aims to rejuvenate your skin by getting rid of dead skin cells, spurring the development of new cells. The skin tone is also evened out, and any hyperpigmentation dramatically reduces. So overall the skin takes on a fresher and brighter appearance. Another benefit is that you will see fewer fine lines and wrinkles, as the treatment helps to warden off any signs of early aging. And finally, no more peach fuzz! Although scalpels facials are widely known for their rejuvenating effect on the skin, this treatment will tame peach fuzz that so many people are bothered by.
Side Effects/What to expect after Dermaplaning
You won't need to plan any downtime to recover from a dermaplaning treatment. You may experience redness or feel like your skin is scraped in the two or three days right after the procedure. You may notice that your skin looks brighter immediately after you've finished with a treatment, but it often takes a few days to see the full results. However, results of dermaplaning aren't permanent. The procedure aims to clear away up to three weeks worth of dead skin cells. After three weeks to a month, your results will have faded. After dermaplaning treatment you should also be careful when it comes to giving your skin any sun exposure, as sun damage can reverse the effects of dermaplaning, so if you're planning to leave the house make sure to pop on some sun cream.
